My Prisoner

I am my prisoner. I’m as free as my word.

Sing a song on instinct
Second guessing sinks in
Guess who guess who’s shrinkin’
Bout to bout to give in
Never tried to get rich
Glory ain’t my business
Singing for the righteous
Damned if they will listen
And I bet another devil’s getting getting wings
And I bet another angel’s getting getting clipped
So it seems to be the nature of the business
Sell your soul and the world tunes in quick

The road less traveled is littered with doubt & sin
Something is soon to give… me or the horizon
(But not tonight)

I am my prisoner. I’m as free as my word.

Art becomes a sickness
A burden I can’t live with
Passion damn it’s wicked
When there ain’t no get/give
I feel I’ve built a prison
Ship with out a strong wind
Taking water on quick
as i, as i, sink sink

And I bet another diva’s getting getting rich
And I bet another poet’s getting getting stiffed
So it seems to be the nature of the business
Own their ears and the world will listen

The road less traveled is littered with doubt & sin
Something is soon to give… me or the horizon

My hope lies inside my own grip
Shall I clench fist or let this slip…

I am my prisoner. I’m as free as my word.
I’m my prisoner. I’m my word. But not tonight.
